Psst!
Read this note!

Stevie and Joeli always have important things to tell each other.

But sometimes keeping your lips zipped and your
thoughts to yourself in class is just too hard.

How will they get around the NO TALKING rule?
Or the ALL MOBILES MUST BE LEFT ON THE TEACHER’S DESK DURING LESSONS rule?
Or Miss Hall?
Luckily Stevie and Joeli have a plan. And it works nearly all most some of the time.
A mischievous and lively story!

Stevie and Jolie are a slightly unwitting comedy duo for readers 7–11. Jolie is the smart one who does his homework; Stevie is the kid who struggles a bit with maths and spelling and who’s always asking, ‘What homework?’ When things get dull or difficult in Miss Hall’s class, the boys start a running series of questions and ludicrous answers through the notes they pass to each other. The notes are quirky, crisp, and funny: often when the boys don’t mean them to be.

The comic energy of this little book is delicious: there is the deliberate, goofy, juvenile humour that kids will instantly recognise; as well as Stevie’s atrocious spelling and maths, and the loopiness of some of his hare-brained ideas. There are brilliant moments of showdown between the teacher, Miss Hall, and the boys. (The boys have to write letters of apology as punishment for their note-passing shenanigans.)

A novel in notes for junior readers, this is a buoyant, light-hearted and mischievous book that will have immense appeal both as a read-aloud and as a read-alone.

Illustrated throughout with Rebecca Cundy’s quirky, lively drawings.
